Physical Education

Physical education (PE) plays an important role in students’ physical, 社会, 情感, and intellectual development. Grades K-12 are an ideal time for students to make physical activity a regular and important dimension of their lifestyle. Introducing students to a variety of activities, while offering sequential instruction, allows them to develop the necessary 技能 for lifelong participation in physical activity with a positive attitude. 4 - 8年级, ADAPT trainers work alongside PE staff once a week, as well as during pre- and post-testing, to incorporate a series of strength and fitness components into the existing curriculum.

Students are challenged to move outside their comfort zones in a safe environment through exposure to a variety of movement activities, from more traditional sports like soccer and basketball, to unique arenas like unicycling and rock climbing. Our goal is to inspire lifelong habits for movement and collaboration in all of our students, laying the groundwork for overall wellness, 领导, 和社区.

中学 PE provides students with the knowledge, 技能, and confidence to participate in physical activity in a way that promotes a healthy lifestyle. Focusing on a variety of skill-based games (basketball, football, etc.) allows students to experience activities that they love and movements that challenge them, and they have an opportunity to work in group settings amongst different skill levels. Physical education also challenges students to take risks in a safe environment, develop decision-making 技能, and offers access to a platform that unleashes their 领导 技能. There is particular focus in the 中学 on the promotion of good sportsmanship, 冒险, and collaborating.

Upper school PE has adopted a skill-themed curriculum organized around individual and group 技能, with the focus on student performance outcomes. The activities are the means through which students can practice, develop, and refine 技能. The end result is students who are confident in a variety of 技能 with an appreciation for lifelong fitness, 社会 well-being, and a positive attitude toward living a healthy life. Students can choose to fulfill their PE requirement by taking PE for Life, Strength and Conditioning, or Full-Body Fitness.
